Sustainable Cork Tableware

Cork is sustainable, renewable and recyclable. Our cork tableware is designed in Cornwall by Liga for elegant, eco, everyday living. They say that they draw their inspiration from nature and create products that evoke the spirit of coastal living and bring a natural sense of balance into the home.
The placemats, coasters, trivets and pottery products are made with cork, which is harvested once every nine years by hand without felling trees. The Cork Oak trees grow across Portugal and Southern Spain where large areas are protected as UNESCO heritage sites in recognition of their importance.
The cork oak forests play a very important role in reducing the impact of climate change. They are said to be the lungs of the environment, absorbing carbon dioxide. They are also hugely important to the economy and society of Spain and Portugal. Portugal, where LIGA’s cork is sourced from, has the largest cork oak forest area in the world. The cork oak is the national tree and has been protected by law since the 13th century.

A growing awareness of the value of the ecosystem of the cork oak forest has led to important initiatives in reforestation and the systematisation of good practices. It is a way of ensuring the future for both the environment and the local economy as two new cork oaks are being planted to replace each old cork oak tree.

Our cork tableware enhances your home whilst allowing endangered wildlife to keep theirs.

Beautiful. Practical. Mindful.
