We are looking for 2 people to join our vibrant team; a permanent shop supervisor plus a Christmas shop assistant to work until the end of the year. We are looking for people who have experience of working in a fast paced retail environment and want to provide a great experience for our customers. People who really enjoy working in retail and take pleasure in delivering top quality service to all customers.

Background

We are a workers’ co-op social enterprise set up in 2000 with a mix of paid and volunteer staff. We have a shop selling fairly traded ethical and sustainable products in the city centre. We sell great quality products that our customers love. Most are made by people in the worlds’ poorest countries and their sales help the producers work their way out of poverty.

Job Description

Within the job role there will be a range of tasks including (but not exhaustive);
Welcoming customers into the shop in a warm and friendly way.
Developing your knowledge so you can advise customers on the range of products we have from gifts to clothing.
Handling customer till transactions by cash and card with accuracy and security.
Carrying out general administration duties.
Dealing with stock; receiving, unpacking, pricing checking and storage.
keeping displays clean, tidy, interesting and innovative including creating new displays from scratch.
General cleaning duties to ensure the shop is clean and tidy at all times.
In Addition the permanent supervisor will be expected to share in leading the team of paid and volunteer staff and take on areas of particular responsibility in the shop. We expect the person to share their skills and experience with the team and embrace opportunities to develop new skills.

Person Specification

Experience of working in a retail environment
Enthusiasm for and commitment to deliver the best customer experience to all customers.
Excellent communication skills, able to confidently deal with all kinds of people while showing respect for and understanding of different faiths, cultures and backgrounds.
Well presented, confident and enthusiastic with a willingness to learn new skills.
A good level of maths and english.
Ability to lead and be directed to work as part of a team.
We trade on three floors. Candidates need to be able to move swiftly between the three floors using stairs.
An interest in fair trade and ethical retail.

For candidates wanting to be considered for the supervisor role experience in booking keeping, contract negotiation or volunteer management is an advantage. This role has the potential to develop with added responsibilities and career progression for the right candidate.

Hours

Both posts are for 15 hrs a week over 2 days, (usually 9.30am till 5.30pm)
The temp post will include Saturdays. The permanent post will take their turn in weekend working with the other paid staff. In November and December the shop is open into the evenings and also on Sundays, both post holders will be expected to share in covering these extra hours.

Pay

As we are committed to following the the Living Wage Foundations guide lines both posts will receive £9.00 per hour.
