Looking for a New Shop Manager to Join the Team

We are looking for a new person to join our small staff team as shop manager. Someone who is excited by the possibility of not only taking a lead in the day to day operations of the shop, but also being involved in the future development of the business.

About You

You will;

have significant retail experience and enjoy all aspects of working on the shop floor.

show by your example excellent customer service.

have an interest in maintaining and building new relationships with our many suppliers.

be keen to source potential new product lines to keep the shop vibrant and interesting.

develop and demonstrate a high level of knowledge about fair trade and be able to tell the producer stories behind our products.

oversee the recruitment and training of staff and volunteers.

be a team player, excited to work in a social enterprise with co-op principles.

be able to demonstrate management skills, working with our staff and volunteers to maximise individual potential, to encourage and challenge.

to work alongside directors and team members, so that working together the business grows, both in turnover and in customer numbers, while remaining profitable.

About Us

Just Fair Trade is a workers’ co-op social enterprise operating in Leicester city centre since October 2000. We are members of bafts.org.uk; Fair Trade Network UK.

This unique post has arisen following the departure of our longest serving paid member of staff (after 18 years!). We are taking this opportunity to re imagine the make up of our paid staff team.

The business has seen growth in the last few years. Just is therefore in an exciting place, both growing sales and customer numbers. We operate in a vibrant area of town that is increasing in popularity, and are surrounded by other independent shops, cafes and bars, close to the Cathedral and Richard III visitor centre.

The day to day running of the shop is undertaken by a strong staff team made up of 4 part time paid members of staff, led by our volunteer founding director, and supported by a small team of committed volunteers. As a workers’ co-op any employee or volunteer can become a co-op member by buying a £5 share. It is these members who vote for and form the board of directors. Currently the board is made up of 8; a mix of volunteers and paid staff. The directors meet every 1 to 2 months.
The shop is open Monday to Saturday 10am till 5pm. Opening hours extend into the evenings and Sundays in the run up to Christmas.

About the Role

Hours: We are looking for someone to work between 22.5 and 30 hrs a week.
The minimum being 3 days Monday to Friday per week plus 1 Saturday per month.

Holidays: 15 days plus bank holidays pro rata, increasing with length of service.

Work pension scheme available. (optional)

Probation period of 3 months.

Pay £22,425 pa pro rata
