Q&A about Volunteering

Q

What do Just volunteers do?

A

Volunteers can get involved in all aspects of shop work. This can include things like; Welcoming customers, helping them shop, unpacking deliveries, re stocking shelves and creating displays, serving on the till, processing online orders, cleaning and making the tea!

Q

Are there specific days or times that I would need to work?

A

Wherever possible we will work around what works for you. In non covid times we are open 6 days a week 10am till 5pm and most volunteers work a 4 hour morning or afternoon shift each week. However in the busy Christmas season our opening hours increase and most volunteers do more shifts. We create a weekly rota so that everyone knows who’s in and when.

Q

What can I expect as a Just volunteer?

A

Just volunteers are at the heart of all things Just, key members of the team. As such we need volunteers to be reliable, honest, hard working and fun! We are diverse in sex, age, ethnicity and faith and this is something we are proud of. Our volunteers say they enjoy working in the team on a common goal and many have made lasting friendships. They also site enjoying learning new skills and many have gone on to paid employment in the retail sector. We also cover reasonable travel expenses and a staff sweat shirt and T shirt!

Q

How can I become a volunteer?

A

The first step is to fill in our simple application form. We then invite candidates to come to the shop for a trial session. This is our opportunity to meet you and your chance to have a taste of what volunteering with us is like. If after that you like us, and we like you then we start booking in in for shifts and giving you training. (We do ask for and take up references)
